5 (Simple) tips to Stay Vegan in the New Year

As we move through December, the new year is quickly coming into view. While many things take place in January, one thing that thousands of people worldwide like to do each January is to set their New Year’s resolutions. What’s great is that New Year’s resolutions come in all shapes and sizes- think weight loss goals, job promotions or career changes, and bucket list items. But, if you are health conscious you may choose a resolution that involves you being vegan in the new year. If you don’t know where to start, fortunately, we’ve got you covered. In this article, we will share tips on how to stay vegan in the new year, and what’s more, most of these tips will help you feel great.

Keep it light but exciting!

This tip is crucial if you’re a newer vegan or you’ve been feeling bored with your food lately. Most sustainable habits are those that are simple and easy to maintain. You don’t have to cook like a gourmet chef every night to keep things exciting. With all that the internet has to offer, it’s easier than ever to find simple recipes that you will not only love but will keep you on track as well.

Eat your veggies...and fruits!

Many of us have had those moments of weakness when we see someone eating a burger or overhear someone talking about a non-vegan meal we used to enjoy. Temptation strikes hard, especially when we are feeling hungry. A great way to not give in to those temptations is to fill up on veggies and fruits. Because most fruits and veggies are calorically low, so you can enjoy more of these foods than that non-vegan snack you saw. And this leads us to the third tip.

Plan ahead and donʼt arrive hungry

If you’re familiar with the golden rule of never shopping on an empty stomach, you’ll master this tip in no time! If you’re going out to dinner, be sure to plan ahead and find out what options there may be on the menu. This way you don’t arrive with an empty stomach and nothing to eat. However, if you know you’ll be going somewhere where there are no vegan options, be sure to eat something small beforehand and plan on enjoying a cocktail or another kind of beverage as you catch up with your friends or family. As highlighted above, temptation seems harder to resist when feeling hungry so set yourself up for success.

Enjoy those vegan meats.. and cheeses!

One major roadblock for many people in going and staying vegan is thinking they won’t be able to eat the same foods they enjoyed as a non-vegan which, luckily, simply isn’t the case. As highlighted above, the internet has so much to offer (think fantastic recipes), which, when combined with awesome products, such as vegan meats and cheeses, there is no reason you can’t simply veganize the meals you are craving (think: a vegan lasagna or vegan chicken wings). So, have fun while you explore all the options you have to make yummy vegan food.

Have your vegan cake... and eat it too!

This last tip will not only help keep you on track but will satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time. Deprivation often, unfortunately, leads to falling off track with whatever dietary endeavors you’re attempting. So, if you’re craving something sweet, have it! Veganised, of course.
